maths home learning - adding and giving change

This week the children have been learning to add using two decimal places (£, 10p, 1p) and then how to give “shopkeepers” change by counting on, using a number line.

e.g. pen costs £3.57 and a book costs £2.82

S2S:

1.     Add the two amounts together using column addition.

2.   Write the answer on the left hand side of the number line

3.   Count up to £10.00 to find the change.

4.   Start with the pennies, then the tens and finally the pounds.

5.   Count up how much change.

Use column addition and a number line for each of these questions. You are spending £10.00 every time.

1.     A book costs £3.58 and a book mark costs £2.27

2.   A bat costs £4.72 and a ball costs £2.85

3.   A pencil costs £1.73 and a notebook costs £4.65   

4.   A ruler costs £3.27 and a rubber costs £1. 62                            

5.   A sharpener costs £2. 44 and a set of coloured pencils costs £5.05

6.   A pair of shoes £7.12 and a pair of socks £1.49
