This week we have been solving word problems. Use the methods we
have practised to solve the different questions. Use column addition, Robin
Hood column subtraction and use your times tables knowledge or count on a
number line starting from 0 for multiplication and division. Follow the Steps
to Success to solve as many questions as you can.

1. There are 360 children in school. 286
children have a school dinner. How many children bring in their own packed
lunch?
2. There are 459 fiction books and 324 nonfiction
books out on loan from the school library. How many books are out on loan
altogether?
3. Mrs Hall has two packets of biscuits.
When she opens both packets there are 46 biscuits on the plate. How many
biscuits were in each packet?
4. Mr Fryer was putting chairs out for the
year 3 play. He put out 9 rows of chairs. There were 21 chairs in each row. How
many chairs did he put out altogether?
5. At a netball tournament there were 11
teams. Each team had 7 players. How many players took part in the tournament?
6. Mrs Hall was reading a book to her class.
There are 157 pages in the book. So far she has read 38 pages. How many pages
are there still to read?
