Maths Home Learning 20/3/15

Maths Home Learning                Mrs Hall                       20/3/15

This week we have been learning the grid method for multiplication. Children have learnt the rule of place value: “When you see a zero in the question – put a zero in the answer. If you see two zero’s – put two zero’s in the answer.”

e.g. 2 X 6 = 12      2 X 60 = 120                2 X 600 = 1200

X
                5
700
      3 5 0 0
30
          1 5 0
6
             3 0

Th H T O
3  5  0  0
     1 5  0
+        3  0
3  6  8  0

e.g   736 X 5 =

Use this method to answer the following questions. (The children have been practising this method all week and have a copy of the times table grid to help them)

1.     1 3 8 X 7 =

2.   2 4 5 X 6 =

3.   1 2 3 X 8 =

4.   3 2 7 X 4 =

5.   5 2 1 X 5 =

In addition I have placed two games on the active learn primary site to support the children’s understanding of perimeter and time. The children do not have to play these games but they do support the work completed recently in school. The two games are: Marching Madness and Bubble Burst.

A reminder on abacus log in details.
