Maths Home Learning                Mrs Hall                       W/E 19/6/15

This week we have learnt how to use the grid method to multiply a three digit number by a one digit number. Draw a grid for each sum and complete as many of the questions below as you can in 20 minutes.

S2S:

e.g. 723 X 4 =
    E 700 X 4 = 2800

1. Write the sum.

2. Estimate the answer.

3. Draw the grid as shown.

X
   4
7 0 0
2 8 0 0
   2 0
       8 0
      3
       1 2
Total
 2 8 9 2

(7 squares X 4 squares)

4. Multiply - starting with the hundreds –

remember your place value.

5. Add up using the column method.

6. Go back and check your answer against the estimate

1.       3 1 9 X 5 =

2.     7 3 6 X 3 =

3.     8 2 7  X 4 =

4.     6 3 2 X 7 =

5.     4 3 8 X 6 =

6.     2 5 7 X 3 =

REMEMBER YOU NEED TO BE PRACTISING YOUR TABLES AT HOME.
