Year 4 Autumn Term Newsletter
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to the start of what we hope will be a fantastic year. We
trust you had a happy and relaxing summer break.
We invite you all to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ session on Thursday 12th
from 3:20 to 4:00pm. This will be a brief meeting in the Main Hall presented by
the Year 4 teachers who will outline the main routines and systems used in Year
4. If you feel there are any issues you
wish to discuss in detail, please make a separate appointment. Mrs Kilpatrick
and other staff will supervise the children on the playground during the
meeting.
Home Learning
Home learning will be
given out on a Monday and then collected in on the following Monday. Each week
the children will be given a short maths activity, a short writing task and a
spelling activity. Each subject should
take no more than 20 minutes to complete. In addition to this, the children
will be expected to practise their times tables weekly and read aloud to an
adult at least 4 times a week. Please update the yellow reading record books to
record this. It is also vital that your child is given the opportunity to
discuss what they have read in order for them to deepen their understanding.
Reading could take the form of a reading book, library book, newspaper,
magazine, leaflet, recipe or website.
Spelling Bee You will notice a list of words in the children’s English Home Learning Book, these are words which are required expectations for Year 4 under the new National Curriculum in English. We are asking the children to learn one or two words per week which they will recite to their partner, this is in addition to their weekly spellings. There will be a Spelling Bee Competition at the end of each term.
