Miss Millett: Maths Home Learning

1) Draw a margin 3 squares in.
2) Leave a square then write Th, H, T U.
3) Write the sum out and make sure the digits are in the correct column.
4) Start with the units and take away. (If the top number is smaller than the bottom, take from the next column.)
5) Repeat with the tens column.
6) Repeat with hundreds.
This week we have been practising the column method for subtraction. Write these out in your book and complete. Remember to set it out neatly writing one digit per square.

Use the column method to solve these word problems:

1) John wants to buy a TV. It is priced as £450 but is reduced by £130. How much is the TV?

2) What is six hundred and forty two subtract two hundred and thirty one?

3) A bottle of lemonade holds 670ml. Steve drinks 325ml. How much lemonade is left?

4) There are 380 children in Bernards Heath Junior School. In Year 6 there are 68 children, they go on a school trip to London. How many children are left in the school?
