3) Write the sum out and make sure the digits
are in the correct column.
4) Start with the units and add. (If the answer
is 10 or over, write the units and carry the ten.
5) Repeat with the tens column. (Carry to
hundreds if needed.)
6) Repeat with hundreds. (Carry to Thousands if
needed.)

now?
4) Mrs Wharton counted 147 green lunch cards and
124 red lunch cards. How many lunch cards were counted?
