History Off The Page

Dear Parents

History Day – Ancient Greece

As a way of providing your child with the best opportunity to find out about Life in Ancient Greece, we have arranged for HISTORY OFF THE PAGE to spend the day with us on Tuesday 2nd May. The cost for the day is £9.00. No child will be excluded due to the inability to pay but the activity can only go ahead if parents make sufficient voluntary contributions to meet the costs.

On this day your child, will through role-play, experience life as it would have been living in the year 490BC at the time of the Battle of Marathon, using authentic tools and materials whenever possible to learn kills as apprentices in a wide variety of workshops. By the end of the day children will have a good idea of how it felt to be a Greek citizen on this pivotal date in history, which led to the rise of Athens as a major power in the ancient world.

There will be a story telling session and the opportunity to try different Greek foods.

Children should come to school in a simple “Greek” costume. For example a tunic could be made from a rectangle of white material or an extra-large white t-shirt with a coloured sash tied over one shoulder. Children should NOT come as a particular character from history or mythology.

In order for the activities to be run successfully we do need some parental support on the day, either for the morning or afternoon or the whole day. Please let us know if you can spare a few hours.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Astley, Mrs Hall, Mr Reynolds
