Year 4 Autumn Term Newsletter
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to the start of what we hope will be a
fantastic year. We trust you had a happy
and relaxing summer break.
We invite you all to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ session on
Thursday 11th from 3:20 to 4:00pm. This will be a brief meeting in
the Main Hall presented by the Year 4 teachers who will outline the main
routines and systems used in Year 4. If
you feel there are any issues you wish to discuss in detail, please make a
separate appointment. Mrs Kilpatrick and other staff will supervise the
children on the playground during the meeting.
Home Learning
Home learning will be given out on a Friday and then
collected in on the following Wednesday. Each week the children will be given a
short maths activity, a short writing task and a spelling activity. Each subject should take no more than 20
minutes to complete. In addition to this, the children will be expected to
practise their times tables weekly and read aloud to an adult at least 3 times
a week. Please update the yellow reading record books to record this. It is
also vital that your child is given the opportunity to discuss what they have
read in order for them to deepen their understanding. Reading could take the
form of a reading book, library book, newspaper, magazine, leaflet, recipe or
website. Children’s yellow reading
record books should be handed in to the teacher every Wednesday for
checking. Please ensure these are kept
up to date and not mislaid.
PE
Full PE kits are expected to be in school at all times
(including hair bands for long hair). Please note that earrings must be removed
for PE lessons. If your child has trouble removing and inserting their
earrings, please remove these before school on their PE days.
Timetabled PE slots are:
Monday ALL
YEAR 4 Swimming kit (including a
swimming cap)
Tuesday ALL
YEAR 4 PE lesson
Thursday ALL
YEAR 4 Fitness Session
Cooking
If any parents are available and willing to run cooking
sessions in the school day, please come and speak to your child’s teacher. We
can be very flexible in times to suit you. The recipes and ingredients will be
supplied by the class teacher.
