Learning Mrs Hall W/E 1/5/15
This week we
have been learning to measure in metres and centimetres and converting to 2
decimal places. E.g. 3 metres 67 centimetres = 3.67metres. We have also been
adding on in decimals by using money. E.g. £1.45 + 55p = £2.00
The children
have worked really hard to understand both of these concepts but have found
converting from centimetres difficult when the length is under 10cm or a
multiple of 10.
E.g. 2
cm = 0.02m and 20cm = 0.20 m or 0.2 m
When adding
using money some children have made the coins to the next 10p but then not
included them in their addition. E.g. £1.45
+ 65p = £2.00 when the addition
should be 55p.
Please
support your children by using coins to work out these sums if you can.
1. £ 1 . 7 2 +
? = £ 2.00
2. £ 4 .3 1 + ?
= £ 5.00
3. £ 9 . 6 9 +
? = £ 10.00
4. £ 2 . 0 4 +
? = £3.00
5. £ 3 . 1 5 +
? = £4.00
Can you
convert the following lengths to a decimal? Then say how many more centimetres
to reach the next whole metre. (Use a number square if it helps.)
e.g. 3metres
39 centimetres = 3.29 m + 0.71 m = 4.00m
1. 4 metres 6 2
cm =
2. 6 metres 8 5
cm =
3. 9 metres 43
cm =
4. 7metres 30
cm =
5. 2 metres 6
cm =
