This week we have used the poems “Night Mail” by WH Auden and”
From a Railway Carriage” by RL Stevenson to explore different poetry techniques.
We have looked at rhyming couplets, alliteration, similes, repetition and
powerful verbs.
Children should write a short poem of rhyming couplets about
winter. (Think how to describe the weather, things we like to do or animals
found in winter.) Try to include other poetry techniques if you can.
Possible rhyme endings may
include: -at, -ig, -ot, -ump, -op, -ook, -old, -ink, -ing, -in, -ill, -ide, -et,
-ent, -atch, -ock, -ipe, -ow
