Ancient Greece

Today all 90 children came to school dressed as Ancient Greeks and spent the day in Athens in  the year 490BC. In the morning we were Athenian citizens waiting to hear how the battle had progressed, knowing that at any moment we would have to flee to the hills.
The children chose from a variety of activities including wax writing tablets, soap carving, mosaics, pottery, clay jewellery making, oil lamps and painting mini frescoes. There was an auction of slaves and the discovery of traitors in our midst.
In the afternoon the children were divided into groups to work on the entertainment. We had dancers, singers, actors and slaves to serve our feast. Fortunately  Pheidippides arrived to give news of the victory before dropping dead at our feet.
All the children agreed it was a huge success and a great introduction to the world of the Ancient Greeks. Here are a few pictures of the day.
